How to Program a GE Universal Remote With Code
To program a GE universal remote manually using codes, we recommend using the direct code entry method as it is the simplest and quickest method in most cases. Here is how to do so.
- First, manually turn on the device you want to control. (For example TV, DVD, Soundbar, etc.)
- Press and hold down the setup button until the red indicator LED turns on, then release the button. The red light will now remain on. Note that the red indicator light can either be located at the top of the remote or on the illuminated power ON/OFF button.
- Press and release the button for the device you want to program. For example, if you want to use the remote for a TV, then press the TV button. Now, the red light will blink once and remain on. In case there is no specific button for your device, press any other device button, the button’s name is provided just for user convenience.

Once the device turns off, you’ve identified a compatible code. Press and release the same device button used in Step 3. This action will save the code within the remote. Then, proceed to Step 7.
- Note 1: The VOL – button can be used to go backward through each batch of 10 codes.
- Note 2: The red indicator light will flash 2 times after testing the first or last code in each batch of 10.
